Autism and Intimacy Disorders: Providing Accurate Treatment For Individuals on the Autism Spectrum
Facilitated By: Candice Christiansen, M.Ed, LCMHC, CSAT-S
D
ate: Friday, June 7, 2019
Time: 8:00am- 12:00pm PST

Individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder have an array of socio-sexual challenges which often impact their ability to connect with family and loved ones. Many struggle with pornography use, abuse, and addiction as part of their symptomatology and some engage in problematic sexual behavior that at times results in their involvement in the legal system. Clinicians are often stumped when they have a client who is on the Autism spectrum, largely because they have a limited understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder traits and are unclear how to effectively treat those with intimacy disorders. This webinar is designed to assist clinicians in understanding the unique characteristics of clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder, how to use an educational approach to accurately treat their clients, gain a better understanding of specific tools and resources that can be used with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, and how to provide support and education to parents and partners of clients.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this webinar, clinicians will:

  1. Understand the unique characteristics found in individuals on the Autism Spectrum including social-sexual challenges that clinicians see in the therapeutic setting.
  2.  Learn how to use an educational approach with adults on the Autism Spectrum who view pornography or have risky online behavior so that they are safe online and have more adaptive connections with others.
  3. Gain a better understanding of specific tools and resources that can be used with individuals on the Autism Spectrum who have intimacy disorders
  4. How to provide support and education to parents and partners of clients on the Autism spectrum who have social-sexual issues including problematic sexual behavior.
