Being a Recovery Sherpa: Effectively Using Your Recovery Experiences to Help Your Clients
Facilitated By: Timothy D. Stein, MFT, CSAT-S, CCPS
Date: Friday, October 11, 2019

Many therapists who work in addiction treatment are in their own recovery. By walking their own path of recovery, these therapists have insight into the temptations, challenges, and fears that their clients face. Therapists who appropriately draw from their own addiction and recovery experiences can be extremely effective treating clients with similar struggles. Learn how to appropriately and effectively integrate your recovery experiences into treatment while keeping boundaries in place and focusing on the client and their work. Self-care for therapists balancing their own recovery with guiding others through the challenges of addiction is also discussed.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this webinar, clinicians will:

  • Identify problems created in therapy by inappropriate self-disclosure.
  •  Identify principles of effective and appropriate self-disclosure in therapy.
  • Understand how to effectively use their experience as a therapeutic guide without self-disclosure.
