There are, of course, a number of critical issues that CSATs should be aware of going forward to better equip them to manage cases successfully. Three topics that we will cover in this refresher are the role of transference and counter-transference in successful and unsuccessful cases; helping couples move beyond the addiction and partner trauma models and into vulnerability again; and the role of family system dynamics in sex addiction, with an emphasis on the role of enmeshment. Participants should be prepared to participate in experiential exercises and discuss relevant cases.
- Identify the role of transference and countertransference in treating sex addicts and partners.
- Explain the importance of viewing couple’s recovery from an attachment repair model.
