Out of Bounds: Addressing Sexual Boundary Violations in the Therapeutic Setting

Facilitated By: Terry Gatewood, LCSW, CSAT

Date: Friday, June 12, 2020 PDT

**4 Ethic and 4 Supervisor CEs Available**

When working with a highly sexualized population such as sex addicts and sexual offenders, it is imperative that Clinicians and Support Staff are properly trained on establishing and maintaining strong boundaries around sexual behavior in the therapeutic setting. Those boundaries must reflect current State Laws, Professional Code of Ethics and best practices. This presentation will outline for participants the legal and ethical parameters for sexual boundaries in psychotherapy. It will also identify strategies to overcome common pitfalls in working with sex addicts and sexual offenders who tend to push limits and violate.

Objectives:
  1. After this presentation participants will be able to fully understand what proper sexual boundaries are based on State Laws, Code of Ethics, and best practices.
  2. After this presentation, participants will be able to develop a strategic plan for establishing sexual boundaries with a population comprised of sex addicts and sex offenders.
  3. After this presentation, participants will be able to effectively address violations of boundaries and policies conducted by clients, clinicians, and staff.
