Building The Bridge: Effective use of “EMDR with CSAT Sex Addiction Training”
Facilitated By: Jennifer Jones, MS, LPC, CSAT, CCP, EMDR Trainer, Master Reiki Practitioner
One of the most challenging and yet rewarding experiences for a CSAT can be effectively incorporating both EMDR and CSAT work to maximize recovery & health.
This workshop will address how to assess and treat dissociation-one of the most challenging barriers to recovery. Providing EMDR processing when a client isn’t adequately prepared can strengthen the dissociative barrier and push the client further on the complex trauma spectrum. Another barrier to recovery is shame and trauma re-enactment. Learn how to use EMDR to reduce these patterns as well as overcompensation and shift sexual anorexia.
Workshop focus will emphasize safety & attunement as the key stepping stones to consistent recovery outcomes. This is crucial when dealing with early development trauma as the attachment wounds are relational based-learn to create the needed "holding space" for clients.
EMDR therapy is known for its robust results; however clinicians must know adequate "resource development" RDI & "front loading" with recovery clients. Participants will learn how to incorporate the Karpman Triangle, Window of Tolerance & well rounded self-care techniques to improve recovery outcomes.
Participants will learn how to utilize the 3 EMDR addiction protocols: 1) the Detur Protocol (Desensitization of Triggers & Urge Reduction); 2) the Impulse Control Disorder Protocol (ICDP) for pathological gambling, sexual addiction, and compulsive shopping; and 3) the Anderson protocol for urge & craving reduction.
Focus of this workshop will explore ways to utilize EMDR with the Recovery Start Kit to maximize outcomes, improve the process of disclosure for both the addict and the partner, and identify targets from PTSI-R.
Discussions will explore what are possibilities of change related to Epigenetics and future possibilities of healthcare changes with quantum physics.
Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Recognize the underpinnings of the Neurobiology of attachment, developmental trauma & addiction
- Utilize the DES Assessment, when to refer out based on results, how to effectively treat dissociation in session (one of the biggest missed clinical issues in treatment)
- Describe effective Resourcing with addiction
- Assess for EMDR readiness
- Discuss 8 phase protocol & how to work most effectively with addictions.
- Implement effective “Front loading” techniques for the traumatized brain (Relapse Prevention Planning)
- Create “Safety” as the catalyst & impetus for deeper recovery outcomes
- Identify where symptoms are on the Window of Tolerance & how to bring them back inside the window
- Identify targets for partner and addict in recovery utilizing the Karpman Triangle
Describe self-care techniques that support recovery and ways to advance recovery
- Utilize the Detur Protocol (Desensitization of Triggers & Urge Reduction)
- Utilize the Impulse Control Disorder Protocol (ICDP) for pathological gambling, sexual addiction, and compulsive shopping.
Utilize the Anderson protocol for urge and craving reduction
Use EMDR to Target: shame, trauma arousal, trauma repetition, trauma blocking, entitlement-deprivation, overcompensation, sexual anorexia
Implement effective EMDR treatment planning while working with Recovery Start Kit-from preparation to the change barriers
Identify EMDR targets from the results of PTSI-R.
Utilize EMDR to maximize the effectiveness of the Disclosure process: from preparation to the aftermath.
Describe Epigenetics and How it relates to the Quantum Physics of Healing
This training is being taught on current EMDR standards and procedures. This training will not be taught as a refresher EMDR course, but as an advance training implementing the learning objectives as stated above.
Practicum feedback will be provided to practice skills and instruct on areas that would be beneficial to improve upon.
About Jennifer Jones, MS, LPC, CSAT, CCP, EMDR Trainer, Master Reiki Practitioner:
Jennifer Jones is a licensed psychotherapist and trauma specialist. She has been utilizing EMDR for 20 years and is a certified EMDR therapist, EMDR consultant, EMDR HAP facilitator and EMDRIA approved Basic EMDR 1 & 2 trainer. Jennifer integrates her work with holistic treatments such as mindfulness, meditation, yoga practices & Esogetic Colorpuncture (needle-less acupuncture) for greater treatment & Recovery outcomes.
Her initial specialization started with children struggling with RAD, ADHD, PTSD, sensory & behavior problems, adoption & attachment issues as well as complex trauma. Her extensive experience began with in-home therapy of children involved in CPS and foster care due to abuse and neglect. Soon after, due to disclosure, treatment focus expanded to the treatment of childhood sexual abuse, incest as well as emotional, physical abuse. Key emphasis work done was with parents to better protect & then understand their children’s behaviors as symptoms vs “fix the behavior” or blame the child. This serves to empower parents to better meet their child’s developmental needs, improve attachment wounds & healing and deepen the “authentic” caring & support relationship.
Jennifer’s skillset expanded to treatment of sex addiction including pornography & video game addiction. Currently Jennifer runs Sex Addiction Recovery groups for men in WI and Puerto Rico as well as Individual Recovery/CSAT attachment/trauma based therapy & specialization on Mental Health/Recovery “Concierge” Support. Additional work is providing Trauma (PTSD) & Recovery intensives and Trauma Relief work in Puerto Rico with Be the Change Global Wellness NPO. This work consists of pro
bono EMDR consultation, pro bono therapy for clinicians and pro
bono-donation based therapy offered to clinicians’ clients who have complex trauma and the issues are beyond their own skillset. This is to develop the therapists’ skills, train on EMDR and trauma, address the issues & her colleagues provide relief for therapists-addressing the need for well rounded change, hope and results for the island. Jennifer has also formed the 1st ever EMDR-TRN (hap Trauma Recovery Network) “Greater San Juan & Yabucoa” Puerto Rico with other fellow clinicians on the island.
She is currently working on the writing & planning of several books & research that will be released in the future.
She is the only EMDRIA approved EMDR trainer, cross-trained as a CSAT.
EMDRIA awarded Jennifer the 2016 EMDR Advocacy Award for her significant contribution of commitment & dedication to EMDR.
IITAP awarded Jennifer the 2019 IITAP Outstanding Educator Award.
