DAY 1 - Facing the Shadow - Facilitator: Chris Simon

Day 1 - Facing the Shadow with Chris SimonFacing the Shadow functions as a core component of the CSAT® process. A challenge of the CSAT model is learning when and how to use this expansive repertoire of hundreds of performables. This workshop will analyze seven performables from Facing the Shadow to help participants understand and expand their usage. Participants will learn the foundation of each performable, ideal times for utilization, and modifications to expand its use beyond sex addiction. The seven performables covered include: Problem and Secrets List, Key Sexual Experiences, Courtship Inventory, First Step, Three Circle Plan, Personal Craziness Inventory, and Relapse Scenarios

DAY 2 - Recovery Zone, Vol. 1 - Facilitator: Edwina Reyes

DAY 2 - The Recovery Zone, Vol. 1 - Facilitator: Edwina ReyesThe reconstruction of a sex addict’s life requires staying sober by continuing the momentum of the deeper work. Recovery Zone, Volume 1 guides an addict through a comprehensive understanding of their addictive and compulsive patterns and investigates further into the underlying factors that formulated these destructive patterns. During this workshop, clinicians will learn how to navigate their addicts through their childhood and family trauma, cultural nuances, grief, anxiety, and shame, to help restore their sense of being through key performables.

DAY 3 - Recovery Zone, Vol. 2 - Facilitator: Curtis Eklund

Saturday, January 25, 2025, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM PST, Earn 7 IITAP CEs

DAY 3 - The Recovery Zone, Vol. 2 - Facilitator: Curtis EklundRecovery is ultimately about rediscovering identity, value, and purpose, which had previously been obscured by and substituted with addictive behavior and attitudes. Understanding and applying the lessons from Recovery Zone, Volume 2 will open up avenues for those recovering to do extensive character investigation and life prioritization. Clinicians will learn how to use the tasks therein to best address individual client needs for clarifying what really matters. This will be used to assist clients in finding a balance in life that makes sense for them and their loved ones.

Chris Simon, LPC, CSAT-S, CMAT is an addiction therapist, CSAT supervisor, executive coach, and behavioral healthcare consultant specializing in sexual addiction. Having worked in behavioral health for almost 15 years, Chris splits his time between sitting with clients, facilitating trainings and supervision, and supporting addiction practices and facilities through consulting. His passion is to help people struggling with addictions to find peace, health, and happiness through the challenging gift of recovery.

Edwina L. Reyes, MFT, CSAC, CSAT-S, CMAT, EMDR is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Certified Sex Addiction Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist-Supervisor. She was born and raised in Hawaii, and is a second generation Taiwanese. She holds a national certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She is in private practice focusing on faith-based counseling and is also the Co-Founder and Vice President for Ho’oko LLC, a private mental health counseling center in Hawaii. She is also a mental health expert on a local TV show in Hawaii called Living808 “Straight Talk." She has provided trainings at state and national levels, and was more recently on an expert webinar panel with the Department of Defense (DoD) and UCLA to train DoD mental health providers nationwide. Previously, she had worked for churches and non-profit organizations. She had also served as the statewide coordinator for the Diocese of Honolulu, focusing on providing services for victims of clergy abuse.

Curtis Eklund, MA, LMFT, CSAT® is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. He is trained in EMDR and is an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed Therapist, and has been in private practice for about a decade. Growing up in a Christian church, his treatment interests includes those who have suffered from spiritual abuse, church wounds, and addiction. Being in recovery himself, his passion and goal is to bring hope to those with addictive behaviors and traumatic pasts. As a native Californian, he enjoys the mountains, beaches, and everything outdoors

Training Details

Upon completion of Day 1 of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand the layout of Facing the Shadow.
  2. Recognize the 7 Tasks throughout the workbook.
  3. Describe seven impactful performables from Facing the Shadow.
  4. Assess the appropriate time to utilize these performables in session.
  5. Modify performables to expand their use to a variety of clients.
  6. Expand confidence in utilizing Facing the Shadow in every day practice.
  7. Comprehend the foundation of each principle.

Upon completion of Day 2 of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Gain knowledge on the purpose of RZ1 and focal points.
  2. Effectively and confidently utilize 7 key performables.
  3. Learn effective approaches and interpretation of the Trauma Egg.
  4. Establish a sound skill set on applying the tasks to culturally diverse populations.
  5. Participants will learn how to correlate past trauma to addictive and compulsive behaviors. Creatively learn how to rewrite the addictive histories of clients into a new recovery mission.
  6. Build clinical strength through the processing of complex case scenarios using RZ1 methods.

Upon completion of Day 3 of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify how Recovery Zone, Volume 2 can be tailored to fit with a variety of therapeutic models (EMDR, IFS, CBT, EFT, etc.)
  2. Learn to use Recovery Zone, Volume 2 as an adjunct to treatment by summarizing the main points, philosophical givens, and cultural assumptions therein
  3. Apply key performables from RZ2, Resistance Letter, Window of Tolerance, Critical Closure Planning Process, Mirrors exercises in order to pass this on to clients. Cultural considerations will be addressed. Participants will move to break out rooms to share/role play performable.
  4. Construct a vision table, its purpose, and how a Legacy table can focus the process.
  5. Integrate the previous exercises into daily habits and master skills, forming them into a cohesive life plan.
  6. Adopt a “One Year to Live” fantasy to help clients review what really matters.
  7. Learn the “Story Telling” performable in order to help clients write the story of the rest of their lives.

**This workshop will be recorded for participants to review within seven (7) days after the training. Recordings are for registered participants only. Please note: if you register for 1 or 2 days, you will receive access to those specific sessions only. If you are registered and unable to attend the training, you will still be able to view the recording(s) on an audit basis (no CEs will be awarded).

  • CEs will be awarded based on registration option selected and associated attendance. For example, if registering for one day, 7 IITAP CEs will be awarded upon full attendance of that specific day/session. Partial CEs will not be given for attending only part of the day.

  • Those who do not fully attend will be placed in audit mode. No CEs will be awarded, or added to the Professional Development Journal, for those in audit mode.

  • This workshop will be recorded for participants to review within seven (7) days after the training.

Policy and Resources

Should you not be able to attend the workshop for the full time, your attendance will be switched to AUDIT mode. This means you will still be able to at tend the workshop for the time that you are able, but you will not receive a certificate of completion or CEs. Partial CEs will not be given. There is no reduction in price to audit a training. Please review our Cancellation Policy. Any questions or concerns, please email training@iitap.com

For a full refund, a written cancellation notice must be sent to training@iitap.com no later than 30 days prior to the scheduled event. Cancellations received less than 30 days prior to the scheduled event will be refunded less a cancellation fee, based on the registration option selected: One day registration = $75 cancellation fee; Two day registration = $150 cancellation fee; Three day registration = $300 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued as of the first day of the scheduled event. Allow 6 weeks for refund.

Course completion certificates for in-person trainings are provided to attendees at the conclusion of the training. Certificates for online trainings are uploaded to member IITAP accounts within two weeks of the conclusion of the training or emailed to non-members, if applicable.
