Love, Sex, and Autism: A Neuro-Affirming Integration of the Sexual Recovery Model Navigating Disclosure, SDI/PTSIR Interpretation, and Intersectional Intimacy

Treating sexual dependency and betrayal trauma within neurodifferent systems requires a clinical lens that balances neuro-affirming care with the essential need for relational safety and accountability. During this webinar, AudHD licensed clinician, Autism specialist, and CSAT Supervisor Candice Christiansen and Meg Martinez-Dettamanti will provide a collaborative roadmap for clinicians to integrate the 30 Tasks of Sexual Recovery with the unique processing styles of autistic and neurodifferent individuals.

Drawing directly from the clinical tools in her #1 Amazon best seller, Love, Sex, and Autism, Candice & Meg will explore how to enhance the accuracy of the Sexual Dependency Inventory (SDI) and PTSIR by teaching clinicians how to interpret results through an "Autism Spectrum lens."

Participants will also learn to navigate the complex interplay of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), communication differences, and empathy expression to facilitate more effective conflict repair and Formal Disclosures. We will delve into the "Autism Erotic Map™" to help couples move beyond "neuronormative" expectations toward a sexual reintegration process that prioritizes radical agency, somatic literacy, and shared consent.

Meg Martinez-Dettamanti, LCMHC, CSAT, CMAT is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, consultant, and published author specializing in the intersection of complex trauma, intimacy violations, and neurodivergence. As a CSAT, CMAT, and IFS Consultant, Meg co-created a pioneering Neuro-Inclusive approach to Internal Family Systems (IFS) in partnership with Candice Christiansen, to support internal and relational healing. Her clinical work focuses on helping individuals of all neurotypes and high-conflict couples heal from generational trauma, betrayal trauma, Dark Triad dynamics, and problematic sexual behavior, including escalated or high-risk addictions.

Alongside Candice, she co-leads customized clinical and KAP intensives for individuals and couples with mixed neurotypes, helping them connect more deeply to their authentic selves and foster open, intimate connections with each other. A dedicated educator and trainer at IITAP, Meg enjoys providing training around our "hardware and software," specifically using IFS and the Polyvagal Theory to help deepen clinical understanding of a holistic approach to internal and relational healing.   1. Integrate neuro-affirming tools with the "30 Performables" to help clients navigate recovery tasks while honoring their specific executive function and sensory needs.

  3. Facilitate a modified Formal Disclosure process that utilizes autonomic nervous system regulation for both and fosters shared language, emotional safety, and accountability.

Course Description
Best Therapeutic Practices in Treating Adults Enmeshed with a Parent

Family system theorists inform us that there can indeed be too much closeness in a family. Enmeshed family systems demand obligatory loyalty, leaving family members who wish to chart their own course feeling guilty and torn between their own aspirations and their family's implicit and explicit demands of them. When one of the adult children is enmeshed, specifically with a parent, additional difficulties arise in the unfolding of relational capacity and sexual development.

This workshop will draw from the phenomenological data collected since 2014 from the Overcoming Enmeshment Workshops that have helped over 500 men and women from all around the world emancipate from their families and find freedom while still loving their parents.

Upon completion of this workshop training, participants will be placed on the Overcoming Enmeshment referral list.

The Mindful Way to Wellness Workshop: Ethically Integrating Mindfulness & Guided Imagery into Trauma & Addiction Recovery

The Mindful Way to Wellness: Guided Imagery & Expressive Arts Workshop for Therapists is an engaging, experiential training designed for clinicians who want to expand their therapeutic toolkit with mindfulness-based approaches, guided imagery, somatic awareness, and expressive arts. This workshop explores creative and embodied approaches that help clients access insight, regulate the nervous system, reduce trauma, increase insight and agency, move through complex relational trauma, and supports long term recovery.

Grounded in current neuroscience and trauma-informed relational frameworks, the training introduces practical interventions that integrate seamlessly with established models such as the IITAP task-based treatment model, and other clinical therapies.

Participants will experience firsthand how guided imagery, breathwork, mindfulness practices, and creative expression can open new pathways for healing. Mari. A. Lee, LMFT, CSAT-S, CPTT-S, MBATT-CS is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of Growth Counseling located in California. She is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and Supervisor, a Certified Partners Trauma Therapist and Supervisor, a Certified Mindfulness-Based Addiction Therapist and Supervisor, and trained in Gottman’s Couples Therapy, and EMDR. For over two decades, Mari has dedicated her clinical work to supporting individuals and couples healing from sexual addiction, betrayal trauma, and infidelity, along with group therapy, and workshops for women and couples.

Mari is the co-author of Facing Heartbreak: Steps to Recovery for Partners of Sex Addicts., and The Mindful Way to Wellness Workbook: Healing Through Guided Imagery & Expressive Art. She is the author of Healing from Betrayal, and The Creative Clinician. The Gift in the Wound: Stories of Resiliency and Hope, is expected to be released in 2027.

In addition to her clinical practice, Mari presents internationally on topics including betrayal trauma, relational healing, mindfulness, and business building best practices. She is an IITAP faculty member for the CPTT certification, a faculty member for TMAATT, and a member of the IITAP and TMAATT ethics committee. Training Details

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between top-down (CBT/task-based) and bottom-up (somatic/mindfulness-based) interventions and explain how integrated approaches support nervous system regulation and long-term recovery.
  2. Identify clinical indicators, contraindications, and ethical considerations for incorporating guided imagery and mindfulness into psychotherapy practice.
  3. Demonstrate at least one guided imagery or mindfulness technique (e.g., grounding breathwork, guided imagery script, mindful art exercise) appropriate for clients experiencing betrayal trauma, pornography or sexually compulsive behaviors, trauma bonding, or love addiction.
  4. Analyze how trauma bonding, problematic pornography use, and betrayal trauma are influenced by complex trauma, shame, nervous system dysregulation, and early attachment patterns, and apply mindfulness-based companion tools to support stabilization.
  5. Integrate workbook-based interventions such as story narratives, psychoeducational content, pre- and post-guided imagery assessments, somatic practices, mindful art, and reflection exercises, into clinical treatment planning.
  6. Evaluate how mindfulness, guided imagery, and expressive arts can be ethically integrated into existing treatment modalities such as the IITAP task model, to enhance client insight, long term recovery, emotional regulation, and treatment outcomes.
  1. Increase clinicians’ understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms by which mindfulness and guided imagery support healing from trauma, addiction, and emotional dysregulation
  2. Equip therapists with practical, replicable techniques—including grounding breathwork, somatic tracking, guided imagery scripts, and expressive arts exercises—for immediate implementation with clients.
  3. Strengthen clinicians’ ability to recognize trauma bonding dynamics, reactive anger, love addiction, compulsive sexual behaviors, domestic violence indicators, through case vignettes and research summaries.
  4. Enhance ethical competency regarding client safety, appropriate screening, cultural humility and client diversity, and scope-of-practice considerations when utilizing experiential modalities.
  5. Promote clinician confidence in integrating mindfulness-based interventions task-based recovery models, and relational therapies for comprehensive, whole-person treatment.

Course Description
The Breakup Manifesto: Reclaiming Self and Sexuality After Toxic Bonds

Breakups are often treated as ordinary life events, but many clients experience them as profound emotional, psychological, and relational events. Clients may present in cycles of obsession, withdrawal, shame, longing, compulsive contact, dissociation, fantasy, rage, grief, and nervous system dysregulation while remaining deeply attached to relationships that are harming them.

This training offers a clinical framework for working with clients during and after toxic, addictive, or chronically destabilizing relationships. It is designed for clinicians treating attachment trauma, betrayal trauma, compulsive relational patterns, sex and love addiction, and the aftermath of emotionally consuming relationships where clients feel unable to fully stay, leave, detach, or move forward.

The course introduces the Breakup Manifesto, a structured written process that helps clients organize emotional reality, confront relational patterns, reconnect to values, and rebuild self-trust. The work focuses on helping clients tolerate reality without collapsing into shame, fantasy, or self-abandonment.

Additional clinical tools include withdrawal stabilization, relational inventory work, regulation practices, Sex with Self exercises, eroticized danger, and the Four Pillars of Self Care. The training also addresses therapist stance, pacing, attachment dynamics, and how to work with clients who are deeply ambivalent, emotionally flooded, or repeatedly pulled back into destructive relational cycles.

The manifesto moves through four phases:

  • Reality Check List: Naming patterns, harm, consequences, and impact without minimizing or romanticizing.

  • Owning One’s Part: Exploring accountability, attachment dynamics, self-abandonment, and relational repetition without collapsing into shame.

  • Living Amends: Translating insight into boundaries, behavioral change, regulation, and daily practice.

  • Affirmations of Return: Rebuilding identity, sexuality, intuition, values, and self-trust after relational collapse. Clinicians will leave with a practical framework for helping clients move through grief, withdrawal, attachment disruption, and relational confusion with greater clarity, stability, and discernment.

Jennifer Rudich, LCSW, CSAT® is a licensed clinical social worker and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist with over 25 years of experience treating intimacy disorders, compulsive relationship patterns, and betrayal trauma. She specializes in problematic sexual behaviors, codependence, attachment injuries, and relational trauma, integrating structured recovery models with depth-oriented clinical work.

Jennifer is the founder of The Intimacy Clinic in Los Angeles and the creator of the Embracing Aloneness and The King's Path frameworks, which support clients in rebuilding internal safety, regulation, and relational discernment. She holds Master’s degrees from the University of Southern California and Hebrew Union College, and she has served in clinical and leadership roles across residential treatment, outpatient programs, and professional trainings.

Jennifer teaches, writes, and consults on intimacy disorders, recovery-based couples work, and trauma-responsive clinical practice. Her forthcoming workbooks translate her core frameworks into accessible tools for both clinicians and clients.

  3. Differentiate between healthy grief responses and maladaptive patterns such as relational withdrawal, compulsive contact, fantasy bonding, self-abandonment, and eroticized danger in clients experiencing relationship loss.
  4. Implement evidence-informed interventions, including withdrawal stabilization, relational inventory work, regulation strategies, Sex with Self exercises, and the Four Pillars of Self-Care, to promote self-trust, emotional regulation, and relational resilience after toxic relationship experiences.
